(St. George, Utah - March 14, 2025) - The Trailblazers opened their WAC home slate on Friday afternoon dropping a doubleheader against Seattle U at Karl Brooks Field.
Utah Tech (10-17, 1-4 WAC) dropped a high-scoring game one, 11-6 and then fell 10-2 in six innings in the nightcap.
The Trailblazers totaled seven hits in each contest with game one seeing a 2-for-3 performance from
Marisa Rubio, who tallied a single, double and added a pair of RBI.Â
Carly Eldredge led the way in game two with a 2-for-3 outing and
Cassidy Hornung was able to reach base three times with a single, drew a pair of walks and scored a run.
In the circle,
Sauren Garton got the start in game one tossing three innings before giving way to
Lexie Wilson for the final four innings.Â
The second contest saw the fourth complete game of the season from
Riley Price who completed six innings and struck out a season-high seven.
Game One Recap
A back-and-forth opening game saw Seattle U (16-9, 5-0 WAC) score first with a run in the top of the first, but the Trailblazers quickly answered back with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning scoring one an RBI triple by Kahahawai-Kekona and she came around to score on an RBI double by Rubio.
The Trailblazers pushed their lead to 4-1 after the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Hornung and an RBI double by
Kinley Pappas, but nine straight runs, four in the third and five in the fourth, gave Seattle U a 10-4 advantage.
Utah Tech continued to chip away at Seattle U's lead clawing back with a pair of runs to cut SU's lead to 10-6 on an RBI double by
Rylie Haith and a second RBI base knock by Rubio.
The Redhawks added a run in the sixth to push their lead to five and the Trailblazers tried to mount a comeback leaving the bases loaded in the sixth, but were unable to tack on anymore runs.
Game Two Recap
The Redhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game, but quickly cut the contest to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third notching an RBI single by Kahahawai-Kekona and
Ellie Evans came home to score after a throwing error by the Redhawk catcher.
That was the extent of the scoring for the Trailblazers in the game as Seattle added a run in the fourth, three more in the fifth and a final three in the sixth to jump ahead by eight as UT was retired in order as the Redhawks completed the run-rule victory in six innings.
