(St. George, Utah - Feb. 20, 2025) - The Trailblazers opened the 2025 Lyman Classic Tournament on Thursday afternoon falling 16-6 to Boise State in five innings at Karl Brooks Field.
Utah Tech (4-8) was held to five hits in the contest getting base knocks from five different Trailblazers.
Freshman
Jorja Crider smacked the Trailblazers first home run of the season while the Trailblazers also got an RBI single by
Ellie Evans.
In the circle,
Sauren Garton made the start tossing 1.1 innings allowing seven hits and eight runs before handing it off to
Cemryn Pickett for 1.2 innings and
Sadie Gardner for the final two innings.
How It Happened
Scoring early and often, Boise State (8-3) got on the scoreboard in the top of the first with a three-run home run.
A two-run RBI single and another three-run home run extended the Broncos' lead to 8-0 and two more runs for BSU in the third made it 10-0.
A four-run fourth followed by a pair of RBI base hits in the fifth pushed Boise State's lead to 16-0 before the Trailblazers broke through with six runs in the bottom of the frame.
Breaking up the Broncos' shutout bid in the fifth,
Marisa Rubio scored on a wild pitch followed by Evans notching an RBI single for UT's second run.
A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for Crider as the Eagle, Idaho native took a 3-0 pitch to deep center field to complete the scoring for the Trailblazers.
