(Las Vegas, Nev. - Feb. 14, 2025) - Utah Tech women's tennis came up short against Idaho State 5-2 on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Trailblazers won three matches, challenging the Bengals closely throughout the competition.
"The team played well today," head coach
Eric Pelton said. "We had a lot of close matches and picked up some good wins."
In the third doubles match, sophomore
Mariana Zurita and junior
Nicole Kells battled back from down 1-5 to defeat senior Olivia Mikkelson and freshman Victoria Grymalska 7-6 in a tiebreaker.
At the number three singles spot, sophomore
Ana Gutierrez Sampere picked up a hard-fought win over ISU freshman Millie Day 2-6, 6-2, 1-0.
"Ana made a strong comeback after dropping the first set to win the second set and third set tiebreaker 10-7," Pelton said. "It was a great win for her."
Senior
Laura Coulome earned UT's second point at the number six singles spot, besting Bengal freshman Veronika Zarovna 6-4, 6-4.
"Laura played an incredible match, closing out a straight-sets win," Pelton said.
The Trailblazers continue their Las Vegas slate tomorrow by taking on UNLV on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. (MT) at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.Â
