(Tucson, Ariz. - Nov. 7, 2025) - The Trailblazers battled tough on Friday night falling 93-67 to No. 13 Arizona at the McKale Memorial Center.
Utah Tech (2-1) was led in scoring for a second straight contest by senior forward
Ethan Potter who finished with 15 points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
Freshman guard
Tanner Davis tallied his second double figure contest of the season chipping in 11 points and
Noah Bolanga rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points to go along with six rebounds and a pair of steals.
Arizona (2-0) countered with four Wildcats in double figures led a trio with 18 points apiece in Koa Peat, Brayden Burries & Anthony Dell'Orso along with 12 points & 18 rebounds from Tobe Awaka.
The Trailblazers shot 38.2 percent (21-55) from the field, 27.3 percent (6-22) from three-point range and 70.4 percent (19-27) from the free-throw line.
How It Happened
With the Trailblazers first nine points coming from the free-throw line, Utah Tech jumped out to a 9-5 lead after
Chance Trujillo sank three free throws after being fouled on a three-pointer.
A three-pointer by Trujillo put the Trailblazers ahead 12-11 and the Trailblazers continued to lead 14-13 after a pair of free throws by
Jusaun Holt.
A 10-0 run for the Wildcats pushed UA ahead 23-14 with a layup from Bolanga ending the Trailblazers cold drought from the field.
Another 8-0 run for Arizona pushed the Wildcats up 31-16 and after extending their lead to as many as 16 (34-18) with eight minutes to play, the Trailblazers continuing to battle tough in the opening 20 minutes of action.
A dunk by
Madiba Owona and a three-pointer by Bolanga kept the Trailblazers within seven (42-35) as a jumper by Potter made it 44-37 in favor of the Wildcats at the break.
Seven quick points for Arizona to start the second half put the Wildcats ahead by 14 (51-37), but the Trailblazers answered back with seven points of their own after a three-pointer from Holt and jumpers by Potter and Bolanga.
That was as close as the Trailblazers could get the remainder of the contest with the Wildcats going on a 17-4 run to jump ahead by 20 (68-48) midway through the half on their way to a 26-point victory.
Numbers to Know
- Utah Tech falls to 0-2 against Arizona and 0-5 against members of the Big 12.
- It was the fifth nationally ranked contest in Utah Tech's six seasons in Division I joining a pair of contests against Gonzaga and one apiece against USC and Arizona.
- The Trailblazers led the Wildcats in second chance points (9-7) and bested Arizona in free throw percentage (70.4-70.0).
