(Abilene, Texas - Nov. 22, 2025) - The Trailblazers fell in a five-set battle to No. 1 seed Utah Valley in the finals of the WAC Tournament on Saturday night at Moody Coliseum.
Utah Tech (21-6) took sets two (27-25) and four (25-21) while falling in sets one (21-25) and three (17-25) before the deciding fifth set saw Utah Valley (16-10) win, 15-6.
Three Trailblazers finished with double-digit kills led by
Nana Asiata with 12 to go along with three block assists.
Tessa Treanor and
Emery Harrison each tallied 11 kills apiece with Treanor notching her second double-double of the tournament tallying 13 digs.
Two more Trailblazers registered double-doubles with
Marley Roe leading the way with 27 assists along with 15 digs and
Tehanie Waters added 15 assists and 13 digs.
Mya Laufiso led the charge defensively with 20 digs and
Taylor Snow had a team-leading six blocks.
How It Happened
A very balanced first set saw the Trailblazers stay within reach of the Wolverines throughout, but Utah Valley used a 6-0 run to break an 8-8 tie and take a 14-8 lead.
With UVU leading 17-12, UT went on a 4-0 run to close the margin to one and stayed within a pair (22-20) after a UVU service error, but the Wolverines scored three of the final four points of the set for the four-point set win.
Utah Tech turned it around in the second set taking a quick 12-6 lead after a kill by
Sydney Reese, but a 7-3 run for the Wolverines closed the Trailblazers' lead to 15-13.
After a timeout by the Trailblazers, UT went on a 9-4 run to push their lead to 24-17 and get on the brink on set point, but seven straight points for the Wolverines tied the set at 24.
Continuing to battle, the teams traded points to tie the set at 25 and the Trailblazers finished out the set with a kill by Asiata and a service ace by Treanor to tie the match at one set apiece.
A 5-0 run midway through the third set pushed the Wolverines' ahead 14-7 with the Trailblazers closing to within 19-17 after a pair of blocks from
Casidy Fried and Asiata.
Six straight points for the Wolverines closed out the set and gave UVU an eight-point set win.
Back-to-back kills by Snow and
Kennedi Knudsen got the fourth set started in strong fashion and a 4-0 run midway through the set pushed UT ahead, 13-10.
After the Wolverines jumped ahead 15-14, the Trailblazers went on a 7-1 run to take a 21-16 lead after a kill by Reese.
With the Wolverines closing the Trailblazers' lead to three (23-20), an attack error by UVU and a kill by Fried clinched the set win and pushed the match to a deciding fifth set.
A 3-3 start for both sides got the deciding set started, but eight straight points for the Wolverines pushed UVU to an 11-3 lead.
A kill by Harrison ended the Wolverines' run, but it was not enough as Utah Valley took the set, 15-6 to claim the match.
Numbers to Know
- Asiata, Treanor and Roe each earned All-Tournament accolades.
- The Trailblazers went to five sets for only the fifth time this season and move to 2-3 on the season.
- It was the first time Utah Tech advanced to the finals in a conference tournament.
