Jusaun Holt led five Trailblazers in double figures with 17 points as Utah Tech doubled up visiting Nobel University, 96-48, on Friday night inside the Burns Arena.
The Trailblazers (4-4/0-0 WAC) were locked in an early see-saw battle with Nobel in the early going as the two sides matched shot-for-shot over the game's first four minutes.
Â
After
Chance Trujillo broke a 13-13 tie with consecutive jumpers, Holt took over, scoring 10 of his 15 first half points as part of a 17-4 run as Utah Tech raced out to a commanding 30-17 lead with just over nine minutes to play in the first half.
Â
While Holt was doing his thing, the Trailblazer pressure defense overpowered the Knights, who misfired on nine of their 10 shot attempts and turned the ball over five times over a near six-minute stretch.
Â
Nobel guard Kevin Hymes final ended the Knights' drought with a floater in the lane, but Holt clapped right back with the second of his two 3-pointers of the frame.Â
Â
That perimeter jumper kick-started a 16-3 spurt over the final 8:47 of the half as Utah Tech retreated to the locker room with a comfortable 46-22 advantage at the intermission.
Â
Utah Tech never saw its lead dip below 23 points in the second 20 minutes and cruised to the decisive home victory.
Â
Holt knocked down four of his five shot attempts in the win and went 7-of-9 at the foul line. The redshirt senior guard also blocked a season-high three shots, and collected two rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 25 minutes of action.
Â
Noah Bolanga tied a season-high with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while
Boston Harker posted career highs of 14 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench.
Tanner Davis chipped in 11 points on 5-of-6 from the floor, and Trujillo finished with 10 points.Â
Â
Utah Tech shot a season-high 59.3 percent (32-of-54) on the night, including a 7-of-21 (.333) effort from the perimeter. The Trailblazers also hit on a season-best 78.1 percent (25-of-32) from the foul line, outrebounded the Knights by a 42-33 count, and finished with 16 assists to just nine turnovers.
Â
Nobel guard Mykale Mundy was the lone Knight to reach double figures as he led all scorers with 18 points. The Knights were held to just 18-of-63 (.286) from the floor overall, and were only 2-of-11 (.182) from beyond the arc.
Â
Utah Tech returns to action this upcoming Tuesday night, Nov. 25, when the Blazers welcome future Big Sky Conference opponent Portland State to the Burns Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (MT).
