Trailblazers Outgunned at Tarleton State, 4-3, on Sunday Afternoon

Koscielski Tallies Brace, Choren Scores First Career Goal

(Stephenville, Texas - Oct. 5, 2025) – Utah Tech women's soccer was outgunned by Tarleton State, 4-3, in an Old-West-style shootout on Sunday afternoon at Tarleton State Soccer Complex. It was Utah Tech's first loss of conference play, putting its record at 5-4-3 (1-1-1 WAC).

Sophomore midfielder Bre Koscielski achieved her first career brace, and junior defender/midfielder Nicole Choren netted her first career goal in the effort.

Tarleton State (7-5-2, 1-3-0 WAC) logged its first shot off a corner kick in the 12th minute. Texan sophomore forward Grace Berry had her shot blocked by the Trailblazer back line.

TSU sophomore midfielder/forward Reegan Wagg launched a long shot into the right post in the 14th minute. On the rebound, Texan sophomore defender Zoe Ballard headed the ball into the crossbar, down and in for their first goal.

Koscielski answered 50 seconds later. She stole the ball on a Tarleton State back pass and dribbled to the box, cut to her left and fired a left-footed shot into the back of the net for an equalizer in the 15th minute.  On a UT corner kick in the 36th minute, junior defender Michelle Rodriguez headed a ball on frame, but TSU senior goalkeeper Mikayla Kendall stood in the way.

Tarleton State sophomore midfielder/forward Adelaide Wyrzynski scored with her head to retake the lead for TSU, 2-1, on a corner kick in the 42nd minute. Ballard and sophomore forward Sam Liaty assisted on the goal.

Once again, Koscielski answered for the Trailblazers 50 seconds later. She scored her first career brace with a right-footed blast inside the box on a loose ball in the 42nd minute.  After the break, freshman forward Jocelyn Wright tried a deep shot, putting one high and on target before Kendall made a save in the 52nd minute.

In the 53rd minute, Liaty tested senior goalkeeper Brianna Frey with a long-range attempt, leading to her only save of the match.

Koscielski smashed a shot just wide right on a chance in the box in the 55th minute.

Redshirt sophomore forward Lataya Brost tried a low shot from the top right of the box, but Kendall made a save in the 58th minute.

The Texans took a 3-2 lead in the 59th minute. Senior forward Stevie Reynolds hit a low cross into the penalty area, and sophomore forward Gabrielle Williams buried the goal with a right-footed shot.

Junior midfielder Teagan Jaussi put one on frame in the 59th minute. With contact from a defender, the shot slowed down for Kendall to make an easy save.

In the 61st minute, senior forward Lacy Fox just missed the goal high and right with a chance to the right side of the post.

Brost hit the crossbar on a promising shot from the right side of the box. The Texans were able to clear the rebound in the 64th minute.

Tarleton State added an insurance goal in the 78th minute. On a corner kick by Liaty, Williams put a header into the top left corner of the goal to give the Texans a 4-2 lead.

Koscielski had a chance blocked out for a corner kick in the 79th minute. On a quick restart, Fox sent a ball into the box, and Choren poked in her first career goal to cut the TSU lead to 4-3. UT's final chance on goal came in the 87th minute. Senior defender Indie Winterton launched a shot from the right side of the box, forcing Kendall to make a diving save.

Utah Tech outshot Tarleton State 12-10, with an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Texans earned nine corner kicks to UT's three. Kendall recorded five saves to preserve TSU's first WAC victory of the season.

The Trailblazers head home to host in-state rival and top of the table Utah Valley on Thursday, Oct. 9. As the second game of a doubleheader with UT men's soccer, Utah Tech's WAC home opener is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Greater Zion Stadium.
