(St. George - Oct. 18, 2025) – Utah Tech women's tennis wrapped up play at the UT-hosted 2025 WAC Women's Tennis Invitational at Trailblazer Tennis Courts on Saturday morning. The Trailblazers posted a combined 4-4 record in the tourney, including a 1-1 mark in singles play on Saturday.
Sophomore
Maya Inouye, the No. 6 seed, won the fifth-place match, downing No. 8 Sofia Selle of UT Arlington, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6). After falling in the first set, Inouye stormed back for a dominant second set win and a thrilling 10-6 victory in the super tiebreaker.
Junior
Mariana Zurita Berdecio, the No. 4 seed, finished fourth overall in singles play. She fell in the third-place match to No. 2 Emma Persson of Tarleton State, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Zurita Berdecio put up a strong fight, forcing the match to a super tiebreaker where she came up short, 10-8.
No. 1 Maria Castano (Tarleton State) dispatched No. 3 Masha Vrsalovic (Abilene Christian) in the singles championship match, 6-4, 6-1. Castano will represent the WAC at the ITA Conference Masters next month.
Utah Tech closes out its fall schedule at the UNLV-hosted Watanabe Classic on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 7-9, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
