Trailblazers Fall to California Baptist, 2-0, on Sunday

(St. George - Oct. 12, 2025) – Utah Tech women's soccer fell to California Baptist, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Greater Zion Stadium. For the first time this season, an opponent shut out the Trailblazers, denying their high-power offense.

Utah Tech (5-5-4, 1-2-2 WAC) recorded the first shot on goal in the fifth minute. Senior forward Lacy Fox challenged CBU redshirt senior goalkeeper Mikayla O'Brien with a shot from the left corner of the box, forcing a dive to O'Brien's near post.

California Baptist (8-6-1, 4-1-0 WAC) scored on its second shot of the game. Lancer junior forward/midfielder Anja Jestrovic was tripped up in the box, leading to a penalty kick. She buried her chance from the mark to the right side, giving CBU a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Brianna Frey made her first save in the 21st minute. CBU junior forward Ava Westlund booted a long-range shot down the middle, and Frey stayed in the way to make the stop.

Lancer freshman forward/midfielder Ryeesa Sekhon got a shot on target from a corner kick, but Frey punched it wide in the 27th minute.

Frey dove to stop a shot flicked on goal by CBU freshman forward Destiny Cabrera in the 37th minute.

California Baptist scored on the first shot of the second half in the 53rd minute. Jestrovic logged a brace on a free kick, guiding the ball over the wall and past Frey on the right side of the goal, earning a 2-0 Lancer lead.

In the second half, UT managed just one shot on goal. O'Brien reached up by her right post to stop a shot by redshirt sophomore forward Lataya Brost from the top of the box in the 63rd minute.

Frey made her fourth and final save on a chance by CBU senior defender Summer Allen in the 73rd minute. It was another diving stop for Frey, who protected her right post on the shot from inside the box.

The Trailblazers struggled to maintain possession and were limited to just five shots, with two on goal in the match. Both totals were season lows for UT. The Lancers tallied 10 shots, putting six on frame. The foul count leaned heavily toward CBU, 15-8.

Utah Tech continues its homestand with Tarleton State on Thursday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George.
