Trailblazers Knock Off Texans In Four Sets

The Trailblazers are off to their first 2-0 start to WAC play in program history.

(St. George, Utah - Sept. 28, 2024) - The Trailblazer volleyball team overcame an opening set loss to defeat Tarleton State in four sets on Saturday afternoon at Burns Arena.

Utah Tech (8-4, 2-0 WAC) dropped the first set, 23-25, but rallied back to take the next three sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 over Tarleton State (5-10, 0-2 WAC).

Led by Kennedi Knudsen in kills for the 10th time this season, the junior outside hitter totaled 15 kills to go along with nine digs, three assists and three block assists.

Tessa Treanor added 13 kills while Taylor Snow led the charge with eight blocks and Mya Laufiso tallied a team-best 19 digs.

The opening set saw the Trailblazers lead 22-19, but it was all Texans to close out the set on a 6-1 run to take the set by a pair.

The second set saw an even start at 9-9 before the Blazers ripped off a 7-0 run, finished off with a kill by Nana Asiata, to push ahead, 16-9. A kill by Treanor wrapped up the 10-point set win to even the match.

With the Texans getting off to a 17-16 lead in third set, UT reeled off eight straight points and wrapped up the set with a kill by Snow to win the set, 25-18.

A 5-0 run for the Trailblazers midway through the fourth set took a one-point lead for UT to six at 16-10 and a kill by Treanor brought the Blazers to match point at 24-17.

Four straight points for Tarleton cut the Trailblazers lead down to three, but a kill by Asiata thwarted the comeback attempt and clinched the win for UT.

With the teams even in kills at 56, Utah Tech led in services aces (7-5) and blocks (13-5) while the Texans led in digs (62-58).

The Trailblazers begin the month of October next week traveling to Utah Valley (9-4, 0-1 WAC) on Thursday and Southern Utah (6-7, 2-0 WAC) on Saturday.
