Utah Tech was not able to protect a pair of second half leads as the Trailblazers came away with a 2-2 road draw at Idaho on Thursday afternoon at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
All the scoring in the match came in the final 40 minutes of regulation play, with Utah Tech (3-2-3/0-0-0 WAC) drawing first blood with
Lataya Brost's second goal of the year at the 50:07 mark.
After a Trailblazer corner kick was initially cleared out by the Vandal defense,
Brooke Taylor settled the loose ball and fired it back into the Idaho 18. Brost was able to get behind the Idaho back line and high-pointed the Taylor feed with a brilliant header past Vandal keeper inside the near post to put her side up 1-0.
The goal was Brost's second collegiate tally, and the second in the freshman's last four matches overall.Â
Idaho (5-3-1) managed to net the equalizer midway through the 80
th-minute when Kahvayli Miller headed in an Alyssa Peters cross from 6-yards out.
Utah Tech caught a major break with 2:56 remaining when the Vandals were called for a hand-ball deep inside their penalty area.
Lacy Fox lined up the ensuing penalty kick chance and drilled it into the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season to put Utah Tech back on top at 2-1.
Unfortunately the lead would be short-lived as Idaho again pulled even just 18 seconds later when Rebekah Reyes rocketed a ball from 45-yards out to Jadyn Hanks, who flicked in a header of her own to tie the score at 2-2 with 1:38 to play.
Hanks then had a chance to win the match in the closing seconds as she was able get off a left-footed shot that was deflected into outer left side of the net as the final horn sounded.
The Trailblazers were outshot 23-13 in the match, though the shots on goal were even at 7-7. Fox led the offense with five attempts, while
Ella Rusick attempted four shots – all on frame. Junior goalkeeper
Brianna Frey was credited for three saves in net.
Utah Tech will close out the non-conference portion of its 2024 slate with a road match at Portland State this upcoming Friday afternoon. Kickoff at Hillsboro Stadium is set for 2 p.m. (MT).
