Trailblazers Earn 1-1 Friday Draw at Portland State

Utah Tech women's soccer wrapped up the non-conference portion of its 2024 schedule with a tough 1-1 draw at Portland State on Friday afternoon in Hillsboro, Ore.

The Trailblazers netted the first goal of the match early in the 55th-minute when Lexi Nelson corralled a Viking clearing attempt and centered the ball to Emily Blanchard

Blanchard managed to get a step away from her defender on the service and redirected the pass into the high left corner of the frame for her first collegiate goal, which put Utah Tech up 1-0.

Utah Tech nursed that lead until late in the 83rd-minute when Abi Hoffman played a ball into the Blazer 18 to Ocean Rideout, who lofted a shot over the outstretched arms of Trailblazer goalkeeper Brianna Frey to pull PSU (1-5-1) even at 1-1.

The Trailblazers had a great look to steal away the win with under 45 seconds to play when Emily Garbett deflected the ball away from a Viking player and centered an on-target pass to a streaking Kyah Le.

Le got a step on her defender and fired a sliding shot that bounded just wide of the right post and out for a goal kick.

The Trailblazers were outshot 18-15 in the match, though the shots on goal were even at 7-7. Lataya Brost led the offense with four attempts, while LE was credited with three shots. Frey wound up with five saves in net in her ninth start of the year.

Utah Tech will wrap up its six-match road swing its WAC season opener at Grand Canyon next Saturday night, Sept. 28. First touch at GCU Stadium is set for 8 p.m. (MT).
