Trailblazers Post Scoreless Draw with Omaha on Sunday Night

Utah Tech recorded its first clean sheet of the 2024 season. Unfortunately the Trailblazers were also held without a goal as they came away with a 0-0 home draw against Omaha on Sunday night at Greater Zion Stadium.

The Trailblazers (1-0-2/0-0-0 WAC) managed to outshoot the Mavericks by a 10-9 count, though only two of those attempts were on goal. Both shots on target came in the first half off the boots of Emily Garbett and Kalea Woodyatt, and both were turned away by Maverick keeper Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen.

Meanwhile the Utah Tech defense only allowed four shots on frame, and junior netminder Brianna Frey was up to the task and denied all four tries.

Omaha's (2-0-1) defense was just as stingy as the unit limited the Trailblazers to only three second half shots, as both teams settled for their second head-to-head scoreless draw in as many seasons (Utah Tech 0, Omaha 0 – 8/20/23).

"This was one of those games that [both teams] play very different styles, and uniquely we both had a hard time really breaking each other down," said Utah Tech Head Coach Lexi Brown. "We encountered this exact match-up a year ago as well. Credit to Omaha, they play a pretty sophisticated system and I think our players did well to defend in the moments that we needed to and stayed organized.

"We created more in the first half and wished we could have capitalized on some of those moments, but this gives us a lot to learn from and build upon," Brown added. "To be undefeated after three games is a good way to start. Two of our ties we wished we could have gathered more from, but all-in-all, our players have played maturely and well, and we're ready to head into next competition."

Utah Tech wraps up its three-match homestand this upcoming Friday night when the Blazers host in-state and former RMAC foe Westminster College. First touch inside Greater Zion Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
