(Ogden, Utah - Aug. 15, 2024) Utah Tech women's soccer opened up the 2024 regular season against Weber State at Wildcat Soccer Field on Thursday night. After 90 minutes of play, the match ended in a draw and marked freshman midfielder
Bre Koscielski's first career goal with the Trailblazers.
The first starting lineup of the season for head coach
Lexi Brown saw
Brianna Frey in net along with three true freshmen (Koscielski,
Lexi Nelson, and
Adele Faller). The Wildcats started the game with an aggressive offensive approach and got three quick shots off within the first seven minutes of the match. After an early save by Frey, WSU found the back of the net in the 17th minute and led 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.
Following the goal by the Wildcats, UT attempted to answer with a couple shots of their own but were ultimately out-shot 6-2 in the first half. The offensive attack from WSU continued coming out of halftime as Frey saved two more shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of the half. The Trailblazers were able to withstand the pressure and found the equalizer on a corner kick in the 66th minute as Koscielski nailed a header into the bottom of the net off the assist from Faller. Frey continued to make impressive saves throughout the rest of the half and finished the night with six total to keep the score level at 1-1.
Koscielski's three shots (one on goal) led the team as Utah Tech finished with five while taking six corner kicks and drawing eight Wildcat fouls and one yellow card. 19Â Trailblazers featured in the game as Frey,
Michelle Rodriguez, and
Gracie Knutzen all played the full 90 minutes.
UT women's soccer returns to St. George for a pair of home games next week, hosting UNLV (Aug. 22, 7 p.m.) and Omaha (Aug. 25, 7 p.m.) at Greater Zion Stadium.
