(Provo, Utah - April 2, 2024) - The Trailblazers jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but were unable to hold onto the lead falling, 12-4 in five innings to BYU at Gail Miller Field on Tuesday evening.
Utah Tech (11-22) totaled five hits in the contest scoring all four of its runs in the fourth inning.
The Trailblazers were led by a pair of hits from
Drew McKown, who also drove in her first career RBI, while
Rachel Campbell added a double, a pair of RBIÂ along with scoring a run.
On the pitching side,
Tyler Denhart got the start in the circle throwing three innings before giving way to
Danyelle Leone in the fourth.
BYU got the scoring started in the second inning with an RBI single for an early 1-0 lead.
Utah Tech stormed back in the fourth with a four-run frame batting around in the inning to take a 4-1 advantage.
A leadoff walk by
Carly Eldredge got the action started with
Marisa Rubio singling to put runners on the corners for
Madisen Duryea. The senior drove home Eldredge with an RBI base knock to center field to tie the game.
Campbell followed with an RBI double down the right field line bringing around Rubio and pinch-runner
Sadie Gardner for a 3-1 lead. McKown completed the scoring with an RBI single back up the middle to score Campbell.
Unfortunately for the Trailblazers, it was all BYU from there as the Cougars answered back with three runs to tie the game at four through four innings before erupting for eight runs in the fifth to complete the 12-4 victory.
The Blazers head out on the road this weekend heading to Seattle U (14-21, 6-5 WAC) for a series starting Friday.
