(Seattle - April 5, 2024) - The Trailblazers split a doubleheader on Friday at Seattle U falling 3-2 on a walk-off in game one before rebounding to win game two, 3-1 at Logan Field.
Utah Tech (12-23, 5-6 WAC) was held to only three hits in the opener before recording seven hits in game two.
Game one saw leadoff hitter and center fielderÂ
LB Kahahawai-Kekona smack an RBI double and draw a walk while game two saw the duo of Kahahawai-Kekona and
Carly Eldredge each have two-hit performances while
Laura Lockard added an RBI double for her team-high 21st and 22nd RBI of the season.
In the circle, the Blazers got great pitching performances from both
Attlyn Johnston in game one and
Tyler Denhart in game two.
Denhart earned her team-leading fourth win throwing 6.1 innings before
Danyelle Leone came on in the seventh for the final two outs to convert her first career save.
Game One Recap
A quiet first few innings in the first game saw the Redhawks get on the board first with a leadoff home run in the fourth.
The Trailblazers answered back tying the game at one in the sixth with a two-out RBI single up the middle by pinch-hitter
Baylee Howley.
Another leadoff home run by the same Redhawk, third baseman Taylor Fitch, pushed SU ahead 2-1 through six, but UT quickly responded.
With
Drew McKown reaching first base after a passed ball on a strikeout, she was pinch ran for by
Jayda Gleave. Moving to second on a groundout, Gleave raced home to tie the game on an RBI double to left by Kahahawai-Kekona.
The tie was again short-lived as Seattle went on to win a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh getting a two-out RBI double by Jasmine Wehn.
Game Two Recap
Look to put the heartbreaking loss in the rearview mirror, the Trailblazers bounced back in game two striking first with a pair of runs on an RBI double by Lockard in the third inning.
UT extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth on a two-out RBI single back up the middle by Howley.
Not going away quitely after being held scorless through six innings, Seattle got the offense going in the seventh.
A one-out RBI double broke up the Trailblazers' shutout bid and brang the tying run to the plate.
With the Blazers making a pitching change to Leone, a walk to the first Redhawk brought the go-ahead run to the dish, but the Trailblazer hurler got a pair of flyouts to preserve the win.
