(Stephenville, Texas - April 19, 2024) - The Trailblazers split a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Tarleton State winning game one, 3-1 before falling 7-0 in game two.
Utah Tech (16-27, 9-10 WAC) totaled seven hits in the first game and added two hits in the nightcap.
The Trailblazers were led by a pair of hits in the opener from
Carly Eldredge while getting one double apiece from
Baylee Howley and
Gabi Giroux. The second game saw base knocks from
Marisa Rubio and
Danyelle Leone.
In the circle,
Attlyn Johnston earned her sixth win of the season in the opener tossing a complete game limiting Tarleton (19-29, 5-14 WAC) to four hits, one earned run and struck out six.
The second game saw
Tyler Denhart take the loss as her and Leone each allowed seven hits apiece with the pair each striking out two apiece.
Game One Recap
The Blazers struck first in the opening game with a run in the second inning scoring on an RBI double by Giroux that drove home Rubio from first.
A sacrifice fly by Eldredge and an RBI single to left field by Rubio in the third inning pushed the Trailblazers ahead, 3-0.
Holding the Texans off the board in the first five innings, Tarleton broke up the Trailblazers shutout bid in the sixth with a bases-loaded walk.
With the bases continuing to be loaded and only one out, Johnston got a popup and strikeout to hold off the Texans rally.
Johnston sent down Tarleton in order in the bottom of the seventh to give UT the win.
Game Two Recap
The second game of the day saw Tarleton hand the Trailblazers a shutout and hold the Blazers to two hits.
The Texans got on the board in the first on an RBI single and added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings for a 4-0 lead.
Two more runs came home in the fifth on an RBI single and the scoring was rounded out in the sixth with one final run as UT was able to get on the scoreboard in their final turn at bat.
