Utah Tech could not get the bats going as the Trailblazers came out on the wrong end of a 9-0 decision in their WAC weekend series opener at Grand Canyon on Friday night at GCU Ballpark.

The Trailblazers (9-28/7-12 WAC) were limited to only three hits on the night, with all three safeties coming from their top two batters in the lineup. Freshman lead-off hitter
Ethan Royal singled in both the third and eighth innings, while freshman infielder
Kyle McDaniel reached on a one-out base hit in the sixth.

GCU (21-17/12-4 WAC) led 3-0 after three innings complete, then added three more runs on both the fifth and seventh frames en route to the series-opening win.

The two teams will play the middle game of their three-game set on Saturday night at 7 p.m. (PT).
