Trailblazers win series finale with 5-1 triumph over Lancers

Utah Tech earned its third WAC series win of the season on Saturday.

(St. George, Utah - April 13, 2024) - The Trailblazers earned their third WAC series win of the season on Saturday afternoon defeating California Baptist, 5-1 at Karl Brooks Field.

Utah Tech (15-26, 8-9 WAC) tallied seven hits in the contest with a pair of base knocks from Rachel Campbell, which included her team-leading eighth home run of season.

Drew McKown added a two-run RBI double and scored a run and LB Kahahawai-Kekona tacked on a pair of hits.

In the circle, Attlyn Johnston earned her fifth win of the season tossing a complete game, her eighth of 2024.

She held California Baptist (23-21, 10-5 WAC) to eight hits, one run while striking out three.

The Trailblazers got the scoring started in the second inning with a three-run frame with a solo blast to left by Campbell getting action started before a two-run RBI single back up the middle by Carly Eldredge pushed UT ahead, 3-0.

Back-to-back two-out singles by Campbell and Maka Sonognini in the third put a pair of runners on base for McKown, who doubled to right, to push the Blazers in front, 5-0.

Three scoreless innings followed before the Lancers broke up Utah Tech's shutout bid in the seventh with a two-out RBI single back up the middle by Merissa Borkowski. That was where their rally ended as Johnston got the final Lancer to line out to left to seal the victory.

Utah Tech heads out on the road next weekend heading to Tarleton State (16-28, 4-13 WAC) on Friday and Saturday.
