Utah Tech was not able to build on an early inning lead as the Trailblazers dropped the final game of their two-game midweek series at Oklahoma State, 12-2 in seven innings, on Wednesday afternoon at O'Brate Stadium.
After spotting OSU a 1-0 first inning lead, the Trailblazers (2-12) loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but only managed to plate one run on a wild pitch that evened the game at 1-1.
Utah Tech then took its lone lead of the day with two outs in the third when
Chase Rodriguez belted his first home run of the season, a solo blast over the right field wall that staked the Trailblazers to a 2-1 advantage.
However it was all Cowboys (8-5) the rest of the way as they scored 11-unanswered runs over their next five offensive frames, which culminated with a two-run Avery Ortiz homer with one out in the seventh that invoked the 10-run rule and earned OSU a split of the two-game set.
Utah Tech collected seven hits on the day, with Rodriguez accounting for two of those safeties and both Blazer runs, while
Ethan He legged out a double in the second inning for the Trailblazers' lone other extra-base hit.
Utah Tech will close out its road swing, and open up its fourth season of Western Athletic Conference play, with a three-game weekend series at UT Arlington. Friday's series opener will start at 6 p.m. (CT), followed by game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. (CT), and Sunday's series finale at 12 noon (CT).
