(Tucson, Ariz. – Feb. 8, 2024) - The Trailblazer softball team opened the 2024 season on Thursday at Arizona falling to the Wildcats, 9-1 on the opening day of the Candera Classic at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Utah Tech (0-1) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a one-out home run by junior
Carly Eldredge, the second of her career, in the top of the first inning.
Arizona (1-0) answered back with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the first inning by Carlie Scupin and extended their lead to 5-1 with a four-run fourth inning recording four singles and taking advantage of a pair of walks.
The Wildcats put the game away in the fifth inning with four more runs to end the contest by run-rule after five frames.
The Trailblazers added a pair of hits from left fielder Marissa Rubio and one from right fielder
Sadie Gardner. Senior pitcher
Tyler Denhart struck out a pair in the start in the circle.
