The Trailblazers shutout Idaho State, 8-0 in five innings on Thursday afternoon behind a one-hitter from pitcher Tyler Denhart.

(St. George, Utah – Feb. 22, 2024) - The Trailblazers got the Utah Tech Tournament underway on Thursday afternoon with an 8-0 victory in five innings over Idaho State at Karl Brooks Field.

Utah Tech (4-5) got a one-hitter from starting pitcher Tyler Denhart, who held Idaho State (10-2) to a double in the second inning, while striking out five and walking none.

Offensively, the Trailblazers combined for 10 hits from six different Blazers, including four with two hits apiece.

Laura Lockard tallied a single, double, scored two runs and drove in four RBI while LB Kahahawai-Kekona went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Carly Eldredge and Sadie Gardner each registered two hits apiece and Oaklee Trapp added a double and scored two runs.

Getting started with a four-run first inning, the Blazers jumped on Bengal starting pitcher Marley Goluskin with two leadoff singles followed by a fielding error that loaded the bases for Lockard.

The veteran third baseman connected on a two-run RBI double to left field and UT added runs after Oaklee Trapp scored on a fielder's choice and Lockard came around to score after a second fielding error by ISU.

The Blazers added two runs apiece in second and third innings on three RBI base knocks and a sacrifice fly by Lockard.

Facing only a minimum of 15 batters, Denhart tossed 59 pitches and sent down the Bengals in order in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings.

The Trailblazers continue with the Utah Tech Tournament on Friday with a 2 p.m. contest against Weber State (3-7) at Karl Brooks Field.
