Trailblazers Falter in Road Finale at Seattle U

The Trailblazers wrap up the regular season on Saturday morning hosting UT Arlington at 10 a.m. at Burns Arena.

(Seattle - Nov. 14, 2024) - The Trailblazer volleyball team closed out regular season road action on Thursday night at Seattle U falling in straight sets at the Redhawk Center.

Utah Tech (15-10, 9-6 WAC), who fell to Seattle U (7-18, 5-10 WAC) for only the second time in program history, dropped sets to the Redhawks, 24-26, 22-25, 20-25.

The Trailblazers were led by junior outside hitter Kennedi Knudsen, who tallied her fifth double-double of the season totaling 14 kills and 12 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Tessa Treanor led the Blazers with a team-leading 15 digs while sophomore setter Marley Roe had a team-high 14 assists.

The opening set saw the Trailblazers race out to a 10-7 lead after a kill by Nana Asiata. The Redhawks answered back with a 12-3 run to take a 19-13 lead.

Eight straight points for the Blazers put UT back in front, 21-19 as the run featured three kills, two blocks, a pair of SU attack errors and a bad SU set.

With the Redhawks ending the run with a pair of points to lock up the set at 21, three more ties ensued at 22, 23 and 24, before the final two points of the set went to SU with a kill and UT attack error.

Much like the first set, the Trailblazers got out strong in the second set leading 18-14 after an ace by Roe forced a Seattle U timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Redhawks went on a 7-3 run to tie the set at 21. A kill by Knudsen locked up the set at 22, but the final three points of the set went the way of Seattle for a 2-0 set lead.

The Blazers jumped out to an 11-10 lead in the third set, but the Redhawks answered back with a 10-5 run to take a 20-16 lead. A kill by Hannah Howard kept UT within four at 24-20, but a kill by Seattle U sealed the sweep.

Utah Tech led the Redhawks in digs (64-63) and service aces (5-2) with SU leading the way in kills (42-37), blocks (12-8) and assists (41-36).

The Trailblazers close out the regular season on Saturday morning facing WAC regular season champion UT Arlington (25-2, 15-0 WAC) at 10 a.m. at Burns Arena. UT will clinch the No. 3 seed in next week's WAC Tournament with a win or a Utah Valley loss at home against Southern Utah.
