(Abilene, Texas - Oct. 24, 2024) - Behind a season-high 20 kills from junior outside hitter
Kennedi Knudsen, the Trailblazers swept Abilene Christian on Thursday night at Moody Coliseum.
Completing their seventh sweep of the season, Utah Tech (12-7, 6-3 WAC) rallied back late in both the second and third sets to take the match, 25-21, 25-22, 27-25.
In addition to Knudsen's 20 kills,
Hannah Howard tallied 10 kills while
Tessa Treanor posted a team-best 10 digs to go along with six kills.
Junior middle blocker
Casidy Fried notched a team-high nine blocks to mark the 10th time she has led the Trailblazers in blocks this season.
With the opening set tied at 16 apiece, the Wildcats jumped ahead 19-18 after a kill, but four straight points for the Blazers put UT back in the lead, 22-19.
A kill by ACU cut the Trailblazers' lead down to two, but a kill, block and a kill by Knudsen wrapped up the four-point set win for UT.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 20-18 lead in the second set, but a late 7-2 run for the Trailblazers wrapped up the set notching four kills, a service ace, an attack error and a block from Fried and Howard for a 25-22 set win.
The third set saw the Blazers jump out to a 10-6 lead and after ties at 15, 16 and 17, UT jumped ahead 20-18 with a kill by
Lusia Langi.
Five straight points for the Wildcats put ACU ahead 23-20, but the Blazers answered right back with four straight points to reach match point leading 24-23.
Back-to-back points for the Wildcats put ACU on the brink of pushing the match to a fourth set, but the Trailblazers had other plans reeling off three straight points capped by a block from Fried and Howard to seal the victory.
Utah Tech led the match in hitting percentage (.320-.190), kills (46-42), blocks (11.5-5), digs (45-41) with ACU holding the advantage in service aces (9-6).
The Trailblazers close out their Texas road swing on Saturday afternoon taking on Tarleton State (6-15, 1-7 WAC) at 12 p.m. at Wisdom Gym.
