Trailblazers Secure a Point at Abilene Christian

Utah Tech women's soccer drew with Abilene Chrisitan 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at Elmer Gray Stadium. With the tie, the Trailblazers remain in sixth place in the WAC with four points.

Junior Lox Neves scored UT's lone goal of the match, hitting the upper 90 on the left side of the goal to beat Wildcat goalkeeper Lili Ross in the 74th minute. Freshman Bre Koscielski assisted Neves, dribbling past two Wildcats to give her teammate the chance. The goal was Neves' first collegiate goal and she scored it against her former team, ACU, where she spent the first two seasons of her career. UT goalkeeper Brianna Frey was tested early, saving a shot down the middle in the fourth minute.

Senior Emily Garbett recorded the Trailblazers' first shot on goal in the sixth minute, putting the ball on frame down the center before being stopped by Ross.

Frey earned her second save of the match in the 12th minute, stopping a high Wildcat shot in the middle of the goal.

Both offenses heated up in the second half leading to both goals. Junior Lacy Fox put a shot on in the 52nd minute that was saved.

In the 64th minute, freshman Lataya Brost's initial shot resulted in a team save in the middle of the net then her second chance was saved by Ross in top center of the goal.

Utah Tech's next shot on target resulted in Neves' goal. That was UT's last chance on goal but the Trailblazers had a close call with Brost in the 76th minute that just went wide right.

Abilene Chrisitan leveled the contest when senior Taylor Sarver hit the right upper 90 to score in the 79th minute. Sophomore Baylie Simon assisted her.

The Wildcats went on to launch eight shots over the last 10 minutes of play. Frey earned three saves in the barrage to keep things tied up when the final whistle was blown.

ACU (2-6-8, 0-4-2 WAC) outshot UT 22-14 with a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams committed nine fouls and had one offsides. Utah Tech (4-6-5, 1-4-1 WAC), behind Frey, totaled five saves to Abilene Christian's three.

The Trailblazers finish the regular season at Southern Utah on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Cedar City, Utah. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Soccer Field and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
