The Utah Tech University Athletic Department combined to post a 3.34 grade point average among its 15 varsity sports for the 2023 fall semester. This fall's semester GPA also marked the 13th-straight semester, and the 18th semester in the last 21 overall, that Trailblazer student-athletes combined to earn at least a 3.00 GPA.

This semester's 3.34 GPA is also the second-highest combined GPA in the department's NCAA four-year era, second only to the 2020 spring semester (3.52), which was completed during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In all, 14 of Utah Tech's 15 varsity sports posted at least a 3.00 GPA this past fall, with the women's swimming program leading the way with a department best 3.79 GPA. Five other programs recorded at least a 3.5 GPA or higher, including women's golf (3.78), women's cross country (3.73), men's golf (3.67), women's soccer (3.57) and women's volleyball (3.57).

"I am continually impressed by how hard our student-athletes work in the classroom, and that pursuit of excellence shows each semester," said Utah Tech Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Beazer. "Our student-athletes are committed to being successful in both academics and athletics, and that commitment will serve each of them for the rest of their lives. We are grateful for our incredible faculty, our academic support staff, and our coaches for their collective commitments to our overall student-athlete academic success."

This past fall, nearly 79 percent of Utah Tech's 403 student-athletes (318-of-403) recorded at least a 3.2 GPA for eligibility for Western Athletic Conference all-academic honors. Of those 318 student-athletes, 150 Trailblazers carried a 3.75 or higher GPA, with 51 of those student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

In addition, 120 student-athletes were included on the Dean's List, with 69 of those student-athletes making onto the President's List.

""I cannot praise our student-athletes enough for earning the highest combined GPA [minus the COVID semester] in our NCAA era," said Mike Olson, Utah Tech Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services and Student-Athlete Welfare. "We have incredibly dedicated student-athletes who recognize the value of hard work in the classroom, and I admire the commitments they make towards their education. Go Trailblazers!

"I especially want to thank to our amazing advisors, Jaclyn Kerouac, and Rick Palmer for their tireless work behind the scenes, and thank our amazing staff in the Utah Tech Academic Success Center for their support of our student-athletes," Olson added.
