Nield, Vorberg Join Utah Tech Women's Soccer

Juli Nield and Nick Vorberg will be assistant coaches during Lexi Brown’s first season in St. George.

(St. George, Utah – Aug. 14, 2023) With nearly two decades of combined coaching experience, Juli Nield and Nick Vorberg have officially joined the Utah Tech women's soccer coaching staff, head coach Lexi Brown announced on Monday.

"We're incredibly excited to have Juli Nield and Nick Vorberg as part of our staff. They both bring so much experience and life to our coaching staff," Coach Brown said. "Both will play a huge role in helping us find success both on and off the field this season."

Nield has been an integral part of the soccer growth in Southern Utah. She has aided in building multiple soccer clubs in St. George, currently coaching at 7 Elite Soccer Academy after spending six years as an assistant at Dixie High School.

"Juli is an alumna who has worked with the program before and has so much history with the program. She's been incredibly invested already and has brought a lot of knowledge and heart to our program," Brown said. "She comes with a lot of passion and we appreciate everything she brings to our coaching staff."

An All-American on the Dixie College 2003 NJCAA Women's Soccer National Championship team, Nield previously served as an assistant coach with the program for three seasons after her playing career ended, helping the program to a 2009 Pacific West championship and spot in the NCAA West Regionals. She also played for FC St. George in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL).

A 2006 graduate from the Utah Tech/Dixie State Nursing program, Nield and her husband Nick have five children that all can be found on the soccer field.

Nick Vorberg enters his third season at Utah Tech, having worked with the men's soccer program for the previous two seasons.

"Nick has a wealth of experience specifically working with goalkeepers and will really ensure that our goalkeeper unit is getting the time and attention they deserve while maximizing their growth," Brown said. "We're super excited to have him as part of our staff."

Vorberg originally came to Utah Tech after serving in various positions with Marquette University's men and women's soccer teams, serving as a full-time assistant coach with the women's soccer program for four seasons. His primary duties at Marquette included training and mentoring the MU goalkeepers in addition to camp instruction, while helping Marquette's women's team to Big East Regular Season and Tournament Championship titles.

A former Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) standout goalkeeper with the Milwaukee Wave, Vorberg was inducted into the Pacific University (Ore.) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. As one of the top goalkeepers in school history, he earned all-conference and all-region accolades in 1996 after guiding the Boxers to a Conference championship and a No. 20 national ranking. His 17 victories that season are a school record and he holds Pacific's single-season record in saves.

Trailblazer women's soccer is set to begin its regular season with a road game at South Dakota this Thursday, Aug. 17. Kickoff against the Coyotes is slated for 5 p.m. MT.
