The Utah Tech University Athletic Department combined to post a 3.277 cumulative GPA among its 15 varsity sports for the 2022-23 academic year. This year's GPA included a 3.26 spring GPA, to go with last fall's 3.29 average, which marked the 12th-straight semester and the 17th semester in the last 20 overall that Trailblazer student-athletes combined to earn at least a 3.00 GPA.

In addition, this year's 3.277 GPA is the second-highest grade point average in its NCAA era, bested only by a 3.385 average set during the 2019-20 academic year.

In all, 14 of Utah Tech's 15 varsity sports posted at least a 3.00 GPA this past season, with the women's tennis team leading the way with a department-best 3.659 GPA.

The Trailblazer women's swimming program finished second on the list with a 3.584 GPA, followed by women's golf (3.582), softball (3.578), and the women's soccer team (3.568 GPA) rounded out the top-five overall.

"I am very proud of the continuous success and achievement enjoyed by our student-athletes in the classroom," said UT Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Beazer. "Our student-athletes are driven to be the very best on the field and on the courts, and their collective drive for excellence carries over into their overall academic success.

"That academic success is also a credit to our athletic academic support staff, our coaches, and our incredible faculty," Beazer noted. "Our student-athletes would not be on the path toward their degree attainment without the hard work and dedication of our academic support system here at Utah Tech."

This past spring, nearly 72 percent of Utah Tech's 360 student-athletes (259-of-360) recorded at least a 3.0 GPA, including 119 Trailblazers who carried a 3.75 or higher GPA, with 45 of those student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Of the 45 student-athletes who posted a 4.0 GPA this spring, eight were members of the Trailblazer women's soccer team, while softball had five student-athletes record perfect GPAs. In addition, 119 student-athletes were included on the Dean's List (3.5 GPA), with 46 of those student-athletes making onto the President's List.

"Academic success continues to be at the forefront of our student-athlete experience at Utah Tech University," said Mike Olson, UT Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services and Student-Athlete Welfare. "We have amazing student-athletes who are preparing for bright futures after graduation. I applaud the efforts of our student-athletes and recognize the hard work they have demonstrated in the classroom.

"This level of success is not possible without the support and expertise of our academic support staff, Jaclyn Kerouac and Rick Palmer, and each of our coach's dedication to academics," Olson added.

Although the Western Athletic Conference has not yet announced its academic all-conference teams for the 2023 spring season, a combined 75 Trailblazer student-athletes were named to the 2022-23 WAC fall and winter sport academic all-conference teams.
