Utah Tech University Athletics announced on Monday the appointment of Matt Brooks as the new Sports Information Coordinator. Brooks will serve as the primary contact for Trailblazer men's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball, and will serve as the secondary football contact. 

"Utah Tech is a school that is on the rise both athletically and academically so I'm very excited to be joining Trailblazer Nation," Brooks said "Thank you to [UT Associate AD] Steve Johnson, [UT Director of Intercollegiate Athletics] Ken Beazer and the hiring committee for trusting me with this opportunity. There's something special being built in St. George and I'm ecstatic to be a part of it."

Brooks comes to Utah Tech after spending the last two years as a graduate assistant in the Western Illinois University Athletics Communication Department. During his time in Macomb, he was the primary contact for men's and women's soccer, women's basketball and softball. 
 
Brooks, who completed work on his Master's degree in Sports Management at WIU earlier this month, also served as the Leathernecks' secondary football contact and as the men's basketball sports information director during the 2021-22 season.

A native of Oregon City, Ore., Brooks is a 2021 graduate of Oregon State University, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Speech Communication. While as a student at OSU, he worked as an undergraduate intern in the Beavers' Athletics Communication office. He was also a journalist for Orange Media Network (OMN), Oregon State's student-run media organization. 
 
At OMN, Brooks worked on the sports team and created all sorts of written content about OSU Athletics with a focus on their Women's Basketball and Soccer programs. One of his feature stories, a profile of a newly-hired soccer coach, was nominated as a finalist for the 2019 Society of Professional Journalists' Region 10 Mark of Excellence (10,000+ students) award.
