Utah Tech women's basketball stunned UT Arlington after shooting 59% from three for a 87-70 win on Saturday afternoon.
What Head Coach JD Gustin said: "Our team did a great job in game plan defense today. Coach Yazzie's plan was right on and our kids rallied behind the challenge of winning another Saturday road game. This is a tough trip and our players were resilient enough to get a split. We obviously also found a rhythm from the three which had a big impact on the game."
How it happened: Things started off slow for the Trailblazers in Arlington. The Mavs started the game on a 10-0 run that woke up the Utah Tech side. They started to fight their way back midway through the quarter when
Averi Papa hit back-to-back three's to bring the game back to just a three point split.
With two minutes to play in the quarter, Brooke Vance drained a three to give the Trailblazers the lead and from there, Utah Tech never was down again. Heading into the quarter break the Trailblazers held a close 21-17 lead, but from there the team took off.
Emily Isaacson started to heat up in the second quarter, earning eight of her points in the second quarter alone. The Mavs tried to fight their way back to end the half but were only able to draw the deficit within eight points, ending the half as the Trailblazers lead 42-34.
The third quarter was lights out for the Trailblazers. UT shot 83% (5-6) from three and 60% from the field in the third quarter. The three's were falling for Utah Tech and it helped extend the lead to a 20 point split at the end of the third quarter. Heading into the final 10 minutes of play the Trailblazers felt confident with a 67-47 lead.
From there, the Trailblazers didn't back down. The Mavs were able to get some quality shots up and hold their own in the fourth quarter, but another 20 point quarter was too much for the Mavs to fight back from. A jumper from Averi Papa held the Trailblazers at a game-high 28 point lead.
At the end of the game the Trailblazers had a comfortable 87-70 win to come back home with.
