(Seattle, Wash. – Nov. 9, 2023) - The Utah Tech volleyball team got back on the winning track on Thursday night sweeping the Seattle Redhawks at Redhawk Center.
Completing its fourth sweep of the season, Utah Tech (9-16, 5-10 WAC) stayed alive for a WAC Tournament berth with the victory over Seattle (7-19, 2-13 WAC) winning sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-21.
The Blazers were led by a season-high 14 kills from freshman outside hitter
Adee Butler. Sophomore outside hitter
Kennedi Knudsen totaled a team-high 14 digs and added eight kills while freshman setter
Marley Roe added a team-best 20 assists.
Utah Tech raced out to a quick 15-7 lead in the opening set and extended it to nine at 23-14 after a kill by Knudsen. Back-to-back kills by Knudsen and
Taylor Snow gave the Trailblazers a 10-point win in set one.
The second set saw UT get out to a 12-9 lead and use a 4-0 run to take a 16-9 lead after a kill by Knudsen. With Seattle cutting the Blazers' lead to five at 17-12, a 5-0 run for the Trailblazers pushed UT ahead, 22-12 and a kill by Knudsen sealed the set for a 2-0 lead.
After a service error by the Blazers cut UT's lead to 10-7 in the third set, a 12-3 run for the Trailblazers gave the visitors a commanding 22-10 lead after a service ace by
Kaycee Bugas. An 11-2 run for the Redhawks cut the Blazers' lead to three at 24-21, but a kill by
Elise Porter proved to be match point and give Utah Tech their first win since Oct. 21.
Utah Tech led Seattle in kills (46-29), service aces (7-3), digs (41-40) and assists (43-29).
The Trailblazers close out the regular season on Saturday returning to Utah to take on Utah Valley (10-16, 7-8 WAC) at Lockhart Center at 1 p.m. in Orem.
