Utah Tech men's soccer wins final tune up against Southern Nevada

Utah Tech men's soccer had its final tune up for the 2022 season with a 6-0 exhibition match win over the College of Southern Nevada.

The match started off with end-to-end play when midway through the half, midfielder Niko Shumov broke through. Off a textbook cross out wide from defender Julian Herrera, Shumov found himself open atop the six-yard box and slotted the ball home, giving the Trailblazers the lead in the 18th minute. Seven minutes later, Dunes Nielsen helped Shumov to the second goal of the night after he sent in a pass and Shumov tapped it home for the brace.

Jimi Villasenor found himself on the score sheet when he dribbled his way through the 18-yard box and slotted the ball past the Southern Nevada keeper and into the back of the net.

Shumov capped off the half with his third to earn the first-half hat trick with a quick shot past the Southern Nevada keeper in the 33rd minute. The Trailblazers lead 4-0 heading into halftime.

Midfielder Raul Ruiz got himself onto the score sheet in the 57th minute off a set piece. Ruiz lined up his free kick on the near side just outside the 18 yard-box when he lofted the ball into the far post, beating the goalkeeper for the Trailblazers fifth goal of the night.

Midfielder Oliver Stone capped off the night in the 70th minute with a right footed shot to the near post that snuck past the outstretched hand of the Southern Nevada goalkeeper. Stone's goal was the last on the night as the Trailblazers earned the shutout on the night, taking home the 6-0 victory.

The Trailblazers return to action on August 25th where they start a four-game road trip against Wisconsin. The team will return home September 12th for their home opener against Santa Clara.
