Trailblazers travel to Seattle for 2022 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

The Dixie State women's track and field team is set to close its 2022 campaign this weekend, and will travel to Seattle, Washington, for the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The three-day meet, held at the University of Washington's Husky Track, will open on Thursday and run through Saturday. The Trailblazers will compete in 13 total events, including 10 running events and three field events.

DSU AT THE WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Dixie State made its debut in the WAC Championships in 2021 in Rio Grande, Texas. The Trailblazers finished in eighth place as a team in their first-ever WAC Championship appearance, setting four program records in the process.

TRAILBLAZER EVENTS/COMPETITORS: The Trailblazers will field five competitors in the 100m, including Rashawnna Gibson, Ashlynn Gilhula, Erica Holt, Elize Larsen, and Emma Terry. Gibson, Gilhula, Holt, and Terry will also join Sadie Edwards and Bailey Galbraith in the 200m, while Edwards will mark DSU's lone competitor in the 400m.

Addi Wyatt and Grace McLaughlin will represent the Trailblazers in the 800m, while McLaughlin is scheduled to be the only Trailblazer in the 1500m. McLaughlin will also join Kirstin Williams and Madison Flippence in the 5000m, while Williams and Flippence will also run in the 10,000m.

Amy White will represent the only DSU runner in the 3000m Steeplechase, while the Trailblazers will field one relay team in each the 4x100 and the 4x400.

In the field events, Kylie Bishop and Morgan Callens will both compete in the high jump, while Paige Davis will represent the Trailblazers in the triple jump, and Allie Richardson will take part in the javelin.

LAST TIME OUT: Dixie State battled through a lengthy rain delay and windy conditions on April 22-23 at the BYU Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah. Despite the stormy conditions, the Trailblazers still managed to post solid marks at the meet with one school record, one event win, and nine other DSU top-10 marks.

2022 ROSTER: Dixie State entered the 2022 Outdoor Season with 35 student-athletes on the roster, including 25 freshmen, six sophomores, and four juniors, with athletic eligibility based on the 2020-21 COVID-19 blanket waiver for an extra year of eligibility.

COACHING STAFF: Derrick Atkins continues his second season as head coach at Dixie State, and is again joined by assistants Justin Decker (Distance), Elizabeth Cook (Distance), Casidy Howard (Throws), and Ross Decker as a volunteer assistant.
