Game Recap: Softball |

Blazers split double header with California Baptist

Dixie State softball competed in a defensive and pitching battle with California Baptist University Friday night and ended up splitting the double header. First, DSU picked up a 1-0 run thanks to a solo home run and a one hit shutout by Tyler Denhart. Later, DSU fell 3-0 to CBU. 

GAME ONE
How it happened: The scoreboard was goose eggs across the stat line throughout the first four innings. Neither team with runs, errors or hits. The oly base runners for either team drew walks. 

In the top of the fifth, Rachel Campbell hit a solo shot deep over the left center field fence for the first run and first hit of the game. Kasey Crawford followed with a single but wasn't able to get another run before the Lancers captured three outs. 

The rest of the game went scoreless for both teams and after a complete seven innings, Dixie State walked away with the 1-0 win.

At the plate: Dixie State ended the game with four  hits from 24 at bats with one run and one RBI.  The Blazers were led by Campbell who had the solo homerun for the win. There were just three other Blazers who had hits. 

In the circle: Tyler Denhart pitched a complete seven inning shutout. She had six hitless innings giving up just one hit total on the day in the bottom of the seventh. She came out of the circle with seven strikeouts and gave up just three walks. 

GAME TWO
How it happened: The pitching and defensive battle continued in the second game of the day with neither team scoring after four complete innings. 

The Lancers were the first to get on the board thanks to a three run single with a three base error in the bottom of the fifth. After five complete innings, DSU trailed 3-0. 

Dixie State wasn't able to get any offense rolling through the final two innings and the Trailblazers fell 3-0. 

At the plate: DSU recorded just one hit and it was from Rachel Campbell in the top of the fifth. 

In the circle: Kate Dolinski started in the ring for DSU and pitched 4.2 innings. She gave up five hits but managed three strikeouts. 

Notes to Know: Dixie State now sits at 13-23 overall on the season and is 3-8 in WAC play. 

Up Next: Dixie State will finish up the three game series with CBU tomorrow before hitting the road to take on in-state rival BYU on Tuesday, April 12 before returning home to host New Mexico State on April 15-16.
