Trailblazers drop two to Redhawks

Dixie State softball dropped two in a double header with Seattle U on Friday afternoon. 

GAME 1
How it happened:  In the top of the second, Dixie State found themselves in scoring position as Oaklee Trapp, Madisen Duryea, and Rachel Campbell all got on base to load them up with two outs. Unfortunately the Blazers couldn't execute and left the three runners on despite a strong offensive position. 

The game went scoreless for both teams throughout four complete innings. In the bottom of the fifth the Redhawks put up one run off of three hits. 

The Trailblazers were able to tie the game up in the top of the seventh. Campbell drew a walk and was able to advance into scoring position thanks to a single up the middle by Kasey Crawford. Carly Eldredge then hit a shot to the third baseman for an RBI to the game up 1-1. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Seattle was able to get a single run thanks to a walk off double to give SU the 2-1 win. 

At the plate: Dixie State ended the game with eight hits from 27 at bats with one run and one RBI.  DSU drew one walk and had just two strikeouts.The Blazers were led by Crawford and Lauren Almeida who each went 2-3 at the plate. 

In the circle: Tyler Denhart pitched the complete 6.1 innings. She gave up nine hits, two runs, and four walks. She did have six strikeouts which is her second highest strikeouts in a game this season,  

GAME TWO
How it happened: Seattle U wasted no time getting on the board thanks to a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning. 

Later in the bottom of the fifth the Redhawks homered again for two RBI to push their lead to 6-0 over the Blazers after four complete. 

In the bottom of the fifth Seattle U was able to get one run from one hit. In the bottom of the sixth, SU put up one more thanks to a sac fly to take push it to an 8-0 score ending the game. 

Attlyn Johnson started in the circle for Dixie State and pitched just .1 innings. Ashtyn Bauerle came into the circle and got DSU out of a sticky situation in the first inning. She went on to pitch 5.2 innings with one strikeout. 

Up Next: DSU will take on Seattle again tomorrow in the final game of the three game series before returning home to host UNLV in a single game Tuesday, April 5. The Trailblazers will continue WAC action April 8-9 at California Baptist with a three game series. 

Dixie State now has a 11-21 record and sit at 2-6 in WAC play.
