Dixie State gets 95-81 victory over ACU

Dixie State women's basketball came up with a 95-81 win over Abilene Christian University Wednesday night. 

How it happened:  Dixie State started the game off on a 7-0 run. ACU came back and tied the game up at 11-11. DSU then went on another 7-0 run to take an 18-11 lead. As the quarter wound down, Maggie McCord hit a three ball in the corner followed by a three ball by Emily Isaacson to give DSU a 24-18 lead at the quarter break. 

Dixie State started the second quarter on an 8-3 run and held ACU to just one field goal in three minutes. The WIldcats found a little momentum going on an 11-3 run. Dixie State had already done some work and had a little cushion of a lead. But thanks again to Isaacson and McCord who made three pointers on back-to-back possessions the Blazer lead jumped back to 10 points with 3:45 left in the half. 
 
DSU ended the first half with a 54-40 lead. At half time, the Blazers had four players in double figures. Breaunna Gillen went 5-7 from the field in the first half putting up 11 points. Averi Papa went 4-4 from the field for an even 10, Isaacson also put up 10 while Maggie McCord went 4-8 from the three for 12. 

In the second half, Dixie State controlled the pace and pushed out to a 77-63 lead going into the final quarter of play and then ended the game with a 95-79 win. 

Leaders: Dixie State had three score 20 or more points and had five in double figures. Isaacson led the Trailblazers with 22 points tying her career high with seven made three pointers.  Shanaijah Davison and Gillen each added 21 points. Gillen had 10 made field goals. 

Averi Papa went off for a double-double and career high scoring. She went an impressive 6-6 from the field for 15 points and pulled down 10 boards for the game high. 

McCord ended the game with 14 points. 

Gillen had the game high of eight assists. 

Comparison: Dixie State ended the game shooting 53 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three and 75 percent from the free throw line. The Trailblazers totaled 42 rebounds, 20 assists and nine turnovers. 

Abilene Christian shot 41 percent from the field, 27 percent from the three and 56 percent from the free throw line. The Wildcats ended the game with 35 rebounds, 20 assists, and 10 turnovers.

Notes to Know: DSU is now 10-18 overall on the season and sit at 6-9 in WAC play.
