Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB season ends with 65-59 loss to GCU

Dixie State women's basketball ended the 2021-22 season Saturday afternoon with a 65-59 loss to Grand Canyon.

What head coach JD Gustin said: "We were able to find some fire in the second half and make a run. We were lacking focus and weren't ready to compete today. They put pressure on us in that third quarter and we made some flat adjustments. We were able to get back into the groove but GCU is a good defensive team and you can only handle the pressure for so long."

"We define our own success and this season was a success for us. We've faced some challenges this year and for us to be as competitive as we have we count this as a success."

How it happened:  The first quarter started out slow for both teams as each they sat tied 13-13 with just under three minutes left in the first quarter. Grand Canyon then went off for a 10-3 run to take a 20-16 lead going in the second quarter.

Dixie State outscored GCU in the second quarter 15-11 to tie the game up at 31-31 at half time.

With a minute left in the third quarter, Grand Canyon had an 11 point lead with the score sitting at 50-39. The Trailblazers went on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 50-50 with seven minutes left in the game.

GCU hit back-to-back three pointers and DSU couldn't recover. With just under a minute left Dixie brought the score within two but couldn't finish as the Lopes pulled away for the 65-59 win.

Leaders: Dixie State had four in double figures. Isaacson led the Trailblazers with 14 points. Maggie McCord added 12 while Shanaijah Davison had 11 points. Gillen rounded things out with 10. Gillen had the gane high with nine rebounds and seven assists.
