Dixie State women's basketball came back from an 18 point deficit to upset California Baptist 81-77.
How it happened: Dixie State and California Baptist started things off tied with a 7-7 score. CBU then went on an 11-2 run and as the first quarter ended, the Trailblazers trailed 26-20.
In the second quarter the Lancers controlled the pace of the game and pushed out to an 18 point lead over the Blazers. Emily Isaacson hit a three pointer with just 15 seconds left in the half to bring the score to 45-30 in favor of CBU.
Dixie State found a groove in the third quarter going on a 13-3 run to start the second half and bringing the score within five. The Trailblazers continued to push and control the pace going on a 10-3 run to end the quarter. DSU outscored CBU 23-9 in the third and trailed 54-53 going into the final quarter of action.
With 8:39 on the clock, Maggie McCord drained a three pointer to give Dixie State the lead for the first time in the game with a 58-57 score. Just two minutes later the game was tied at 62-62 and Shanaijah Davison made a driving layup on a fast break followed by a made three ball by Breaunna Gillen the Trailblazers had a five point lead with four minutes remaining in the game.
Emily Isaacson drained a three pointer with 1:47 left to give DSU their biggest lead of the game with a 75-68 score. Dixie continued to charge in the final two minutes coming up clutch with 6-6 from the free throw line to push for an 81-77 upset win over California Baptist.
Leaders: Isaacson led the Trailblazers with 21 points. She popped off going 5-8 from beyond the arc and 7-10 from the field. Davison added 19 points as her and
Brooke Vance tied for the game high with nine rebounds. Vance had 13 points while Gillen added 11.
Comparison: Dixie State ended the game shooting 47 percent from the field, 43 percent from the three and 85 percent from the free throw line. The Trailblazers totaled 43 rebounds, 17 assists and 23 turnovers.
CBU shot 32 percent from the field, 28 percent from the three and 83 percent from the free throw line. The Lancers ended the game with 46 rebounds, 20 assists, and 15 turnovers.
Notes to Know: DSU is now 9-16 overall on the season and sit at 5-9 in WAC play.
Up next: Dixie State will take on Seattle U Feb. 26 for the final road game of the season before returning to the Burns Arena for the games of the 2021-22 season against Abilene Christian and Grand Canyon.
