Trailblazer women's basketball stopped by Seattle

Box Score Dixie State women's basketball lost 61-69 against the Seattle U Redhawks on Saturday afternoon.

Seattle went on a 11-0 run to start the game. The Blazers first points of the game from Shanaijah Davison to make the score 11-3. Maggie McCord and Breaunna Gillen each found a basket but the Blazers were unable to rebound and the first quarter ended 8-23 for the Redhawks.

McCord opened up the second quarter going 5-5 from the three-point arc matched by just one three from the Redhawks to bring the Blazers back within single digits early on in the quarter. McCord rounded out the quarter setting a new career record going 6-8 from the field with 18 points by halftime. 

At the halftime break the Trailblazers were down 25-38.

The third quarter was a back and forth contest between the Blazers and the Redhawks. The Blazers were able to put up 20 points with another eight points from McCord to send it to the end of the third quarter at a 45-56 scoreline.

The Blazers fought hard for the comeback in the fourth quarter, drawing the score back within six points, but it wasn't enough. Despite Davison, Gillen and McCord scoring in double digits, the Trailblazers fell 61-69 to the Redhawks. 

Notes to Know: Maggie McCord set a new career high for points scored with 26. She shot 8-10 from the field and 2-2 from free throws to set her new best.

DSU is now 9-18 overall on the season and sits at 5-11 in WAC play. 

Comparison: The Trailblazers shot 18-59 from the field and 12-39 from three point range. The Blazers recorded 32 rebounds and 16 assists.

The Redhawks shot 25-53 from the field and 11-29 from the beyond the arc. The Redhawks recorded 33 rebounds and 18 assists. 

Up next: Dixie State will return home for their final two games of the season. March 2 at 7 p.m. the Blazers will take on Abilene Christian. Then on Saturday night at 7 p.m. the Blazers will have Senior Night against Grand Canyon at 3 p.m.
