Utah Tech volleyball fell in three sets to California Baptist on Thursday night.
What head coach Camilla Hafoka said: I thought we had great moments throughout the match tonight, we just need to do a better job as a team on how to build off of those moments and stay consistent the entire time.
How it happened: The Trailblazers found some early momentum in the first set as they strung together five consecutive points thanks to five straight kills for a 9-5 lead. Later, CBU answered with a 6-0 run to take a 16-13 lead over UT. The Trailblazers couldn't recover and the Lancers finished with a 25-21 first set win.
CBU got an early 6-2 jump on Utah Tech in the second set and never once gave up the lead. UT tried to capture some momentum later in the set with three straight points but couldn't tie the set up and the Lancers waltzed away with another 25-21 set win.
The Lancers got an 11-5 jump on the Trailblazers in the third set and later pushed on for a 21-10 lead. Utah Tech found some momentum thanks to a powerful kill by Bridgett Talia. UT went on an 8-2 run to hold off CBU but a pair of Lancer kills pushed them to a 25-19 third set win and overall match victory.
Killin' It: Utah Tech was led by
Whittnee Nihipali who had 12 kills from 41 attacks.
Kate Hardy recorded eight kills from 18 total attacks with no errors for an impressive .444 percentage.
In total, Utah Tech had 37 kills with 20 errors from 129 attacks for a .129 percentage.
Taela Laufiso led the Trailblazers with 26 assists on the night to help with UT's offensive efforts.
Diggin' it: Utah Tech was led by
Mykenna Nelson who recorded 22 digs in the match. In total, UT had 69 digs on the night.
Notes to know: Utah Tech is now 10-10 overall on the season and 4-7 in WAC action.
Next Up: The Trailblazers will host the final home game of the season against Grand Canyon on Nov. 5 for senior night. The final regular season games of the year will be Nov. 10 and 12th at UT Arlington and Stephen F. Austin.
