Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC returns home with 1-1 draw at Houston Christian

Utah Tech men's soccer held on for another 1-1 road draw Sunday afternoon against the Houston Christian Huskies. The Trailblazers remain undefeated all-time against HCU.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Trailblazers started the opening half hour of play controlling the tempo of the match. The Huskies were able to get a few looks at goal, but the Trailblazer backline was able to keep them from earning a shot on goal. Despite not getting a shot off, the Trailblazers spent their share of time in the attacking third and created dangerous opportunities.

In the 38th minute Guglielmo Bianchi had a good look at goal that forced the Huskies' goalkeeper into his first save of the game. Just minutes later, Sacha Etienne-Courtois had a look as well. Neither were able to find the back of the net and the Trailblazers headed to halftime drawn 0-0.

Out of the halftime break the Trailblazers were looking to find an opening goal when Dunes Nielsen got another shot that forced Huskies goalkeeper Alex Aitken into another save.

The Trailblazers were able to find the breakthrough in the 66th minute. After being pushed down in the box and earning a penalty kick, Taylor Rogers stepped up to the spot and sent Aitken the wrong way to give Utah Tech a 1-0 lead. This was the Trailblazers first second-half goal of the season.

After the Trailblazer goal, the game opened up. The Huskies were pressing heavily but while the backline held its own, the attackers were able to find three close chances in the 15 minutes following the goal.

In the final two minutes of the match the Huskies were able to capitalize on their slew of late chances, leveling the game 1-1 in the 88th minute.

At the end of 90 minutes the Trailblazers would take their second road draw of the trip by a 1-1 scoreline.

STAT BREAKDOWN:  The Trailblazers had 10 shots with three on goal. Taylor Rogers scored the lone goal of the game off a penalty kick. Sacha Etienne-Courtois, Guglielmo Bianchi and Dunes Nielsen each had two shots. Bryce Backlund, Taylor Rogers, Larsen Rogers and Carlos Vargas each had a shot on the night as well.

Stockton Short started and played the full 90 minutes in goal, making one save and allowing just one goal.

HCU ended the match with 13 shots, having two on goal. The team was shown one yellow card, and their goalkeeper made one save.

NOTES TO KNOW: The Trailblazers now have a 3-7-2 record on the season and have a 1-1-2 record in WAC play. The Blazers have scored eight goals this season and have two shutouts.

Only one Trailblazer was shown yellow in this match, Blaine Chambers in the 4th minute of play.

With his goal today, Taylor Rogers becomes the team's leading goalscorer with two goals. Prior to this match each of the team's goals had come from different people.

UP NEXT: Utah Tech will return home for matches with Seattle and San Jose State. The Trailblazers will take on the Redhawks on Oct. 14 at 7:30 pm before rounding out the weekend against the Spartans on Oct. 16 at 1:30 pm.
