Dixie State women's basketball's second half lag led to an 88-60 loss to California Baptist Thursday evening in the Burns Arena.
What Head Coach JD Gustin Said: "We knew it was going to be hard. I was happy with our first quarter offensive aggressiveness. We attacked the rim but we had a really tough night in defensive transition. We've done a great job of that season but definitely got derailed in that aspect. CBU doesn't play zone very often and they pushed the zone on us tonight and we should have executed that better. "
How it Happened: The Trailblazers jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first quarter. CBU captured the lead halfway through the quarter and jumped to a 19-15 lead. The quarter ended with a 25-25 thanks to a driving layup made by
Shanaijah Davison.
The Lancers went on a 13-0 run to start the second quarter while DSU went on a three minute scoring drought. Going into halftime, DSU worked to close the scoring gap and the Trailblazers trailed 46-35.
Despite some strong efforts by the Blazers, Dixie State couldn't gain any momentum in the second half and California Baptist continued to charge forward to claim the 88-60 win over DSU.
Leaders: Dixie State was led by Davison who had a DSU debut of 20 points, seven rebounds, and the team high of four steals. Isaacson recorded a double double with 11 points and the game high of 13 rebounds. Gillen stayed on par with her average dropping 17 points.
Comparison: Dixie State ended the game shooting 31 percent from the field, 24 percent from the three and 55 percent from the free throw line. The Trailblazers totaled 40 rebounds, six assists, seven steals and 14 turnovers.
California Baptist shot 49 percent from the field, 39 percent from the three and 81 percent from the free throw line. The Lancers ended the game with 45 rebounds, 16 assists, 11 turnovers and 12 steals.
