Trailblazers women soccer took down the Idaho State Bengals Friday evening with a 2-1 score.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Dixie State once again wasted no time getting a jump on its opponent. Just one 1:53 seconds after kickoff, Emily Garbet was able to sink a goal from
Jill Bennett.
The Trailblazers locked down on defense and maintained the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the 67th minute Idaho State was able to sneak in a goal against the Trailblazer defense to tie the game up 1-1.
The momentum was picking up as the clock was ticking. In the 80th minute, Whitley Griffiths had the ball in the middle of the field and drove into the 18 yard box where she fired off a shot off the right foot into the left corner of the goal. Griffiths' goal ended up being the game winner and DSU took the 2-1 win over Idaho State.
STAT BREAKDOWN: Griffiths led the Blazers with seven shots and four of them on frame including her one game winning goal. Bennett recorded three shots with one on goal and one assist.
Kayla Gonzales started in the net for DSU and came away with four saves and allowed one goal.
Dixie State ended the game with 12 total shots and six on goal while ISU ended with 13 total shots and five on goal.
NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 3-2-0 overall on the season. The Blazers have recorded seven goals on the season, with four of those (including today's) coming within the first 10 minutes of the game and five goals within the first 10 minutes at the start of any half.
UP NEXT: The Trailblazers will finish out a six game road stretch taking on in-state rival Weber State on Sunday, Sept. 5 in Ogden, Utah. DSU's first home game is set for Sept. 10 against Pacific.
