Trailblazers stopped by UC Irvine

Box Score Dixie State men's soccer lost 5-0 to the UC Irvine Anteaters after giving up an early goal in the 5' minute of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
DSU conceded early on in Irvine and was never able to recover. After Irvines' Kwabena Boateng capitalized on loose marking in the box and found the back of the net, the Trailblazers were on the back foot early on.

Through the bulk of the first half, DSU kept the match close. Tony Foulger had a good look in the 22', but Irvine goalkeeper Gordon Botterill blocked it. That was the only shot DSU registered in the first half.

The Anteaters found their second goal in the 42' after some tekkers in the box. DSU's backline was unable to clear their lines, and Kelvin Neumetzler got the tap in. Then just moments after the restart, Irvine found another goal. After a misstep from Levi Lord, Irvine's Jake Means jumped on his mistake and passed the ball into the open net.

DSU trailed 3-0 at the half. Out of the halftime break, DSU looked recollected and ready for the second half.

In the 55', Daniel Brubaker had the best look of the game for DSU. Brubaker fought his way through Irvine's backline but sent his shot just high over the crossbar.

Disaster struck again for DSU in the 73' when the team gave up two goals. The first coming off a half volley from Oscar Delgado. Then on the next possession after the whistle, the Anteaters scored again, this time from Kelvin Neumetzler after a DSU turnover.

After the fifth goal, DSU was unable to recover, and despite registering seven shots after Irvine's fifth goal, they failed to break through and find the back of the net.

STAT BREAKDOWN:
Levi Lord started in goal for DSU and registered five saves in this matchup. He faced 18 shots, eight of which were on goal.

DSU recorded 14 shots despite not adding any points to the goal sheet. Niko Shumov and Larsen Rogers lead the team in shots with three apiece.

UP NEXT:
Up next, the Trailblazers face UC Riverside for game four of their five-game road trip. The kickoff for that match is Sept. 17 at 7:00 (PT). The Trailblazers will then head to Santa Clara for their final game of the road stand and return home on Sept. 25 to face Utah Valley.
