Dixie State falls 7-4 to Utah

Dixie State fell to the University of Utah Tuesday afternoon with a final score of 7-4. 

How it happened: Utah Started the game off with by putting up two runs off of two hits and two errors. In the second inning, Mikaela Thomson started things off with a double to right field. Kasey Crawford then laid down a bunt and beat the throw for an RBI to put the Blazers on the board. 

In the top of the third inning, Utah was able to get one run but the Trailblazers answered with a run thanks to a double by Meagn Anders for an RBI. After three complete innings, DSU trailed 3-2. 

In the top of the fourth, the Utes put up two more runs pushing their lead up to 5-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Hannah Hughbanks doubled for an RBI to put the score at 5-3 after five complete. Later in the sixth inning, Thomson had a solo home run to cut the run deficit to one. 

In the top of the seventh, Utah was able to put up two more runs before Dixie State could finish out the game. DSU ended up falling with a final score of 7-2. 

At the plate: Dixie State was led by Thomson who went 2-3 at the plate with one double and one home run. The Trailblazers ended the game with six hits, four runs and four RBIs. DSU drew one walk and had just one strikeout. 

In the field: Dixie State had 21 putouts and 13 assists. Thomson had 10 putouts while Qugiley had four assists. 

In the circle:  Carissa Burgess started in the circle for Dixie State and pitched a complete seven innings. She gave up seven runs and nine hits. She had six strikeouts and gave up just three walks. 

Notes to know:  Dixie State is now 15-17 overall on the season and remain 3-3 in WAC action.
