Dixie State battled with Seattle U in a double header Friday afternoon and dropped both games.
GAME 1
How it happened: The first inning went scoreless for both teams. In the bottom of the second inning, Seattle U had runners on the corners and was able to sneak a run across the plate to get on the board first.
In the top of the third, Dixie put themselves in a position to score by loading up the bases thanks to singles by Malory Eldredge and Meagan Anders. Unfortunately no runs came across and Seattle U had the 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Seattle U was able to get two more runs across the plate to bump its lead to 3-0.
The Trailblazers didn't let the Redhawks come away with a shutout due to a solo homer by Hannah Hughbanks over the right field fence in the top of the seventh. DSU couldn't get any more offensive movement and fell 3-1 to Seattle U.
At the plate: Hughbanks led the Blazers going 2-4 at the plate. In total, Dixie had six hits, one run and one RBI. DSU drew five walks and had five strikeouts.
In the field: The Trailblazers ended the game with 18 putouts and four assists. Kirsten Quigley had five putouts while Eldredge added four.
In the circle: Ashtyn Bauerle pitched the complete six innings. She gave up six hits, three runs and one walk. She had one strikeout in the 26 batters faced.
GAME TWO -
How it happened: In the bottom of the first inning, Seattle U put up four runs thanks to a two run homer and a DSU error. Later in the third inning, the Redhawks had another home run for two RBIs to push their lead to 6-0 over the Blazers. In the fourth, SU was able to get another run to make the score 7-0.
Seattle U's Shi Smith kept DSU at bay until the top of the fifth when Oaklee Trapp singled down the right field line for a hit.
In the bottom of the fifth, Seattle U doubled for an RBI to end the game in five with a final score of 8-0.
In the circle: Kate Dolinski started in the circle for DSU and pitched two innings. She gave up six runs and seven hits.
Brianna Castellon pitched 2.1 innings for DSU giving up two runs and five hits.
Notes to Know: Dixie State is now 18-26 overall on the season and 6-11 in WAC action.
Up Next: The Trailblazers will take on the RedHawks again tomorrow before finishing out the season with a double header at Utah State on May 9 and a single game against BYU on May 10.
