Trailblazers fall 11-5 to Texans

Dixie State ended the three game series with Tarleton State with an 11-5 loss to the Texans Saturday afternoon. 

How it happened: The first inning was an action packed one for both teams. In the top of the first inning, Tarleton State put up six runs from five hits, including a three run homerun. 

Dixie State answered in the bottom of the first. Hannah Hughbanks and Shea Clements both drew walks to start things off. Meagan Anders then hit a double for an RBI. Mikaela Thomson flew out to left field for an RBI. Dixie was able to capitalize on a wild pitch for another run. Malory Eldredge also singled for an RBI and as the first inning closed out Dixie State trailed 6-4.

The Texans then put up five more runs over the next four innings while holding the Trailblazers scoreless. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hannah Hughbanks fired one off deep into center field for a solo home run. As the game closed out Dixie State fell 11-5. 

At the plate: Dixie State was led by Clements and Anders who each had two hits. Anders had one RBI and one run. The Trailblazers ended the game with nine hits, five runs and four RBIs. DSU drew seven walks and had three strikeouts. 

In the field: Dixie State had 21 putouts and nine assists. Thomson had seven putouts while Eldredge and Qugiley each had three. Anders and Carissa Burgess each had three assists on the day. 

In the circle:  Ashtyn Bauerle started in the circle for Dixie State and pitched 0.2 innings. She gave up four hits, six runs and one walk in the nine batters faced. 

Carissa Burgess came in and pitched 6.1 innings. She gave up five runs, four hits and two walks. She did come away with one strikeout. 

Notes to know:  Dixie State is now 15-16 overall on the season and are now 3-3 in WAC action.

Up Next: DSU will host the University of Utah April 6-7 before hitting the road to Grand Canyon for more WAC action April 9-10.
