The Trailblazer women's tennis team dropped their match Friday morning in Las Cruces, New Mexico, falling 6-1 to Tarleton State.
Tarleton State (10-10, 4-1 WAC) started the day off by playing to a 6-3 win in doubles No. 1; however, Dixie State (5-14, 2-3 WAC) evened doubles play at one a piece after Alexandria Hildreth and
Ya-Chi Hsu took their match in No. 3 doubles, 6-4. The doubles point came down to the No. 2 spot, where
Juliana Honczaruk and
Rachel Mellor played to a tough 4-6 loss. This gave Tarleton a one-point advantage heading into singles play.
Tarleton kept their momentum heading into singles play, claiming the No. 1-4 spots quickly. The Trailblazers had a couple highlights on the day though.
Emma Templeman played a hard-fought match in No. 5 singles, where she forced the match to three sets and dropped a close one, 3-6. Honczaruk played to the only singles win of the day for the Trailblazers in the six spot, winning the first set 6-4 and the second 6-2. Â
"The team played well but lost a good match to the number two team in the conference," said Head Coach
Eric Pelton. "Honczaruk came through huge for the sole win today at number six."
The Trailblazers are 5-14 thus far into their first Division I season.
DSU will be back in action tomorrow at 10Â a.m. where they will face off with UT Rio Grande Valley to close out the year.
