In its final road trip of the season, Dixie State (6-8/ 5-8 WAC) was swept by Tarleton State University Monday evening in Stephenville, Texas. The Trailblazers were held to a hitting percentage of .129 in the loss.
Dixie State got itself into a small deficit in set one, but used a 5-0 run to take the lead 17-16. The Texans responded, however, and used a run of its own to regain the lead. The Trailblazers were unable to recover and lost the first set 25-23.
In set two, Dixie State again found itself trailing 10-6 to begin the frame. A prompt 9-2 run changed the tides and saw the Trailblazers take a three point lead. Tarleton State would go on to win 11 of the next 16 points and would carry the set once again by a score of 25-23.
It was a back-and-forth set three as both teams were knotted at 15 apiece midway through the session. The Texans put the clamps down defensively and a 10-2 run would would help them claim the set 25-18 to hand the Trailblazers its fifth loss via sweep this season.
Whittnee Nihipali led the Trailblazers offensively with 15 kills and a .364 hitting percentage.
Siara Roberts handed out 26 assists, while
Mykenna Nelson had 19 digs and
Rebekah Farris added 11 digs in the loss.
