Women's Tennis Falls to Idaho State, 7-0

The Dixie State women's tennis team began their two-match road trip this morning with a loss to Idaho State, falling 7-0 in Pocatello, Idaho.

Idaho State (6-3) started the day off strong by claiming doubles wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Doubles play continued in the No. 1 spot as Dixie State's (0-8) Rachel Mellor and Emma Templeman battled with the Bengal's top doubles pair. The match extended into a tiebreaker with the Trailblazers falling short, 5-7. This closed out doubles play for the morning, giving the Bengals a point advantage heading into singles play.

Singles play started off similar to doubles with ISU quickly claiming the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 spots from the Trailblazers. Senior Kyra Harames, who has been the top player for the Trailblazers this far into the year, had another close match. Harames, playing in the No. 1 spot, dropped her first set 4-6 but fought back to a 6-3 win in the second set. The senior fell short of a victory, losing the final set 2-6. Singles play continued in the No. 2 spot where Sabrina Longson played one of her best matches of the year. The junior dropped her first set to the Bengal's No. 2 player, 2-6. However, she fought back in the second, playing to a 6-4 win to force a third set. Longson then played a close third set that she eventually dropped, 4-6. The highlight of the day came when talented Trailblazer freshman, Rachel Mellor competed in the No. 5 spot. Mellor jumped out to a lead by winning a close first set, 7-6. She then dropped her second set playing to a 4-6 loss, forcing the match into a third set. Mellor battled in a back-and-forth tiebreaker set that she dropped 8-10, this would end the day for DSU.

Dixie State will now shift their focus to tomorrow's match against College of Idaho; start time for the match is set for 10 a.m. (MT). The Trailblazers are 0-8 thus far into their first D-1 season.
